AUSTRALIAN DESIGN WINS US AWARD

An Australian designed portable field communications device called ‘P3’ recently won a prestigious US Golden Link award for “outstanding collaboration between government and industry” - in this case the Australian Defence Force and Defence Communications Industry.

Managing Director, Defence Communications Industry, Alec Umansky accepted the award at a presentation held at Technet 2002 in Washington. Mr Umansky was accompanied by the Counsellor, Defence Materiel- Washington, Gil Watters and the Assistant Director, Defence Industry at the Australian Embassy - Washington, Aurelio Azpiazu, Mr Umansky said the ‘P3’ device, which has already been deployed to East Timor, Bougainville and Afghanistan, provides a seamless Local Area Network in the tactical field deployed environment. It replaces expensive and fragile fibre-optic based LANs, while still providing integrated voice telephony and video.

Designed by Defence Communications Industry in close collaboration with the Royal Australian Signal Corps and other Army units, the ‘P3’device reflects actual requirements for field deployed communications. Defence Communications Industry is one of many small innovative defence companies being supported by our Washington office in finding US military customers.
